MAE Peering Services

Verizon MAE® Services provides Internet traffic exchange facilities that enable customers to interconnect. These public exchange services allow customers to peer with each other without the need for dedicated links. The MAE exchanges are now interconnected through the Verizon MPLS IP Core enabling extended peering across regional boundaries. There are two types of peering services: MAE Regional and MAE Extended Service.

MAE® Extended Service
MAE Extended Service is available on a per-port basis with a usage-based fee structure. A customer port subscribing to MAE Extended Service may have peering connections to other extended service or regional ports in any of the connected exchanges. A customer may have connections between two of their own ports.

MAE Regional Service
MAE Regional Service is available on a per-port basis with a fixed monthly fee for each port. A customer port subscribing to regional service may have peering connections to other MAE Regional ports within the same MAE region (exchange) or to MAE Extended Service ports in any of the connected exchanges. A customer may have connections between two of their own ports.

How to connect to the MAE
The first step is to contact us via email. A Verizon representative will contact you and lay out the prerequistites for connecting to the MAE network and assist in determining the best technical solution for your requirements (border router equipment, colocation issues, etc). Verizon will then provide as much support as possible to assist in arranging peering with other customers; however this task is mainly a customer responsibility. Tell me more.

PeerMaker Provisioning Tool
Once connected to the MAE network, a customer can build peering connections to other MAE customers, provided the peers have reached a mutual agreement. Verizon provides a web-based provisioning tool, PeerMaker, free of charge to all its MAE customers. Using PeerMaker, a customer may build, modify and delete its own peering connections without involving Verizon operations. The ability to monitor traffic on these connections is also a feature of PeerMaker that is available to MAE customers. Tell me more.
