How Did We Get Started?

MAE East was established in 1992 by MFS. MAE East was established as a distributed layer 2 exchange (shared Ethernet over DS3), using an MFS metro Ethernet product. MAE East migrated to a colocation based exchange and was later designated by the NSF as the 4th Network Access Point (NAP). Later MAE West and five other MAE sites were added by MFS. Today Verizon operates the MAE Facilities providing high speed, high bandwidth services.
